Levin received undergraduate and graduate degrees from the MIT Media Lab. Levin applies creative twists to digital technologies that highlight our relationship with machines, make visible our ways of interacting with each other, and explore the intersection of abstract communication and interactivity. The drawings are scanned from sketchbooks, and form vast digital library of source material for Patersons virtual collages. Reas writes software to create drawings and live animated installations. Departing from traditional techniques, Paterson experiments with code and authors programs to assist him with all areas of his work.
Software will present four of these artists and one artist team, and their created with software to be experienced on computer monitor Golan Levin, Lia, James Patterson, Casey Reas and LeCielEstBleu, the artist team of Kristine Malden and Frdric Durieu. Golan Levin is an artist, composer, performer, and engineer interested in developing artifacts and events which explore supple new modes of reactive expression. Using software as the intermediary, Paterson applies animation concepts to drawing, and vice versa.
He has shown at P. S. 1, the American Museum of the Moving Image, Whitney Museum of American Arts artport, the San Francisco Exploratorium, Ars Electronica in Austria, ZKM in Germany, SIGGRAPH, Transmediale in Berlin, Uijeongbu International Digital Festival in Korea, Kunstlerhaus in Vienna, Danish Film Institute, MIT, bitforms gallery in New York City, has commissioned five of the original artists working in this form to create new interactive works sold as limited editions. His imagination clouds are filled with freefloating imageryice cream fountains, rains of numbers, and shooting star snowflakes.
